Candidates Confirmed For Putnam August City Elections


The field of candidates is now set for city elections scheduled for August across Putnam County as the candidate deadline expired Tuesday.

11 candidates are set to run for Cookeville City Council. Candidates include incumbents Ali Bagci, Luke Eldridge, and Chad Gilbert. Newcomers include Cigi England, Mason Harville, Sam Matson, Kelly McCorkle Parkison, Damon “Dee” Prince, Sam Raper, Nick Stone, and Trenton Tyler Strode.

Council Members Eric Walker and Laurin Wheaton are ineligible for re-election due to term limits.

Three candidates are running for Algood Mayor, Tiffany Anton, Billy Bilbrey, and Danny Richardson. Five candidates will also seek two Algood City Council seats currently held by Billy Bilbrey and Ruby Hawkins. They include Taylor Hill, Tim McPherson, Bryan Payne, and Dan Taylor.

In Baxter, four candidates will run to fill the expiring terms of Willie Allison and Greg Phillips on the city council. Candidates up for those two seats are Caleb Bryant, Brian H. Burgess, Greg Phillips, and Richard Waller.

In Monterey, Chris Landers is running for Mayor. For the Board of Aldermen, in Ward 1, incumbent Alderman Spencer Delk filed papers; in Ward 2, Brian Q. Williams filed, and in Ward 3, incumbent James Wolfgram has filed to run again. In Ward 4, not a single candidate submitted qualifying papers.

According to the Putnam County Election Commission, candidates have one week until noon on March 17 to withdraw from the race, or otherwise their name will be on the ballot.

Early voting for the August election runs from July 17 through August 1. Election Day takes place August 6.
