The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office warning residents about a new text message scam claiming to be from the State of Tennessee DMV.
The fraudulent texts circulating Tuesday state that the recipient is receiving a final warning regarding an outstanding traffic ticket. It instructs them to click a link to submit payment.
“Scammers are constantly looking for new ways to trick people into giving up personal or financial information,” Sheriff Eddie Farris said.
Officials urging residents to remember government agencies will not request payment or personal or financial information through text messages. Officials advise residents to never click links in text messages from an unknown number.
Residents should always delete the fraudulent message and block the number.
