TN Tech Names Anderson As Head Basketball Coach

Tennessee Tech officially announced on Saturday that veteran coach Tobin Anderson will take over as the program’s new head coach.

Anderson most recently served as a special assistant to head coach Bryan Hodgson at South Florida Bulls men’s basketball. Anderson coached the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights men’s basketball to a 63-58 victory over Purdue in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, only the second time a No. 16 seed had defeated a No. 1 seed.

Anderson then became head coach of the Iona Gaels men’s basketball, succeeding Hall-of-Fame coach Rick Pitino.

The Golden Eagles finished this season 13-18 and missed the conference tournament.

Anderson said the opportunity represents both a challenge and a chance to recreate the type of turnaround he engineered earlier in his career.

“I am incredibly honored to be named the head coach at Tennessee Tech,” Anderson said. “My family and I are excited to join the Cookeville community and begin building a program Golden Eagle fans will be proud of.”

Tennessee Tech is preparing to move to the Southern Conference beginning in the 2026–27 season.
