Fentress Seeking Public Input For Road Safety Action Plan

Fentress County officials are seeking public input as part of a new federal grant that will improve roadway safety across the county.

Fentress County Highway Superintendent Ryan Reed said the county has received the Safer Streets for All grant, which is currently in its planning phase. While the grant will not fund road resurfacing, Reed said it could support a variety of safety-focused upgrades.

“You know, acceleration, deceleration lanes, turning lanes, wider shoulders, guardrails, things of that nature, anything to do with safety, pretty much,” Reed said.

Reed said the county has launched an online survey for residents to share feedback on areas they believe need safety improvements, intending to identify the most concerning roadways.

“You know, we’ve all got areas that we think are a danger or a safety hazard,” Reed said. “That’s why we’re asking for the surveys, so we can get other people’s input.”

Reed said the survey is quick and easy to complete and encouraged widespread participation from the community.

“Of course, the more interest we have in it, the better it is,” Reed said. “The more the merrier, they say.”

The survey will remain open for two months. After that, a committee made up of local leaders and public safety officials will review the feedback and begin developing an action plan, which could help determine how much funding the county ultimately receives.

Residents can complete the survey by contacting or visiting the Highway Department office. A QR code is also posted at the county courthouse, allowing people to easily access the survey on their phones.
