The DeKalb County Board of Education will extend the contract of Director of Schools Patrick Cripps and increase his salary following a positive annual evaluation.
The school board approved a one-year extension of his current contract, with a pay raise of an estimated $11,000 per year. School Board Chairman Shaun Tubbs said the extension comes after the evaluation showed that Cripps has made improvements.
“Mr. Cripps’ evaluation this year comes back at a 4.71 out of a possible 6.0,” Tubbs said. “His score and evaluation has increased from his last evaluation, which came in at 4.47.”
Cripps’ current contract had two years left and was set to expire on June 30, 2028. The pay increase will bump Cripps’ yearly salary to an estimated $120,000. The school board approved the extension and pay raise unanimously.
Tubbs said each board member evaluated Cripps across several categories, and those scores were averaged to determine an overall rating. Tubbs said the completed evaluations were then submitted to the Tennessee School Boards Association, where they were compiled and averaged to produce the final score. Cripps thanked the board for the extension.
“I just want to say thank y’all, and I can’t speak a whole lot more because I will get more emotional, but I do love this job, and I love this county,” Cripps said. “I just want to say thank you for the vote and the confidence.”
