The Jackson County Commission approved a $116,400 budget amendment Monday to cover the local matching requirement for a Health Department expansion grant.
Mayor Jim Morgan presented the request to transfer money from the county general fund balance. The move ensures that all project-related expenses are handled through a single financial source.
“When we got the grant money, we put it in 171, for the grant,” Morgan said, “We spend our grant money out of that, but we have to put our match in there too so that way all the expenditures come out of one fund to that way you’re not taking out of two.”
Morgan said the county is required to place its matching portion into the same fund where the grant money is held. Morgan said this process allows all expenditures to come out of one fund rather than splitting payments between two separate accounts.
Morgan said the consolidation of funds is a practice preferred by auditors. The expansion project involves significant infrastructure work at the county facility.
“Well, they had an addition, a new roof, generator, and some updates and remodeling on the inside of the health department, this is what this was for,” Morgan said.
Morgan said the $116,400 represents the total share the county is responsible for matching under the grant terms. On commissioner questioned the total amount being placed into the fund before making the motion to approve the amendment.
“This should be all of it, yeah, this is what we have to match the 116,” Morgan said. “This is our part, this is our share of the matching.”
