Some 22 percent of Putnam County voters turned out Tuesday to help decide six contested Republican primaries for County Commission.
Former Commissioner Joe Iwanyszyn failed in his bid to return to the commission. Gene Mullins won District 10 to advance, with 36 percent of the vote. Kim Bradford advances with 34 percent. Iwanyszyn finished third with 28 percent.
Five candidates faced off in District Four’s Republican primary with Ken Hall winning 30 percent of the vote. Theresa Tayes finished second with 25 percent. Larry D. Bennett finished third with some 17 percent of the vote share.
In Commission District Nine, Dale Moss took home the win, capturing 31 percent of the vote. Robert Riddle finished second in the two-seat race. Tom Brown finished third with some 24 percent of the vote while Skip Ritter came in last with less than 17 percent.
Jack Phillips captured 35 percent of Tuesday’s ballots in District Five. He moves on with second place finisher Junior Phipps who captured 33 percent of the vote. Vinnie Faccinto came in third with 30 percent.
In District Three, Brenda Gentry and David Gentry tied with 76 total votes, 38.9 percent of the final vote. Jeff Sibley finished in third with 22 percent.
Steve Brown won in District Seven, with 43.5 percent of the final vote. Tina Flatt finished second at 30.8 percent while Mike Luke came in third with 24 percent.
District 1 Republicans Terry Randolph and Jonathan A.D. Williams will face Democrat Morgan Franklin in the General Election. Randolph earned over 51 percent of the vote, and Williams received 47 percent.
District 2 Republicans Ron Chaffin and Clarissa Williams will face Democrats Stacye Choate and Mack Lunn.
In District 6, Chris Cassetty and Kenneth Matheney will run against Democratic candidate Lori Strode.
District 8 Republicans Danny Holmes and Matt White will face Democrat Chelsea Holland.
District 11 Republican candidates Kathy Dunn and Darren Wilson will advance to face Democrat Trenton Strode, while District 12 Republican David Andrews will face Democrats Shane Cunningham and Virginia Fillers.
Putnam County voters also approved 250-acres North of Cookeville to annexed into the city’s limits. Over 54 percent of eligible voters approved of the annexation.
