Board Extends Monroe Following Higher Evaluation Scores

The Clay County School Board extended the contract of Director of Schools Diana Monroe by two years following an annual evaluation that showed an increase in her performance scores.

Chairman Benji Bailey said Monroe received an overall average score of 4.31 out of five. That is an improvement over her previous score of 4.21.

“So that is obviously above consistently meets expectations and just below exceeds expectations, always,” Bailey said. “So that is the result of our evaluation that we perform every year.

The board extended the contract, to run through June 30, 2029. Under state law, the Director of Schools can only be employed up to four years under a written contract, but there is no limit on how many times they can be rehired.

“Traditionally we have also at times considered the director’s contract at this moment as well, just based on the fact that we have done the evaluation and everyone has given it some thought,” Bailey said. “I will say that we advertised accordingly based on the evaluation and consideration of the director’s contract if you so choose. There have been times as well that we’ve not done anything. So it is up to the board at this point.”

Vice Chairman Nathan Sherrell introduced the motion before it was passed unanimously.
