Eight Putnam County schools placed on lockdown Tuesday following a series of false threat calls involving reports of bombs and armed individuals.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said the lockdowns included Upperman High School, Upperman Middle School, Cookeville High School, Cane Creek Elementary, Capshaw Elementary, White Plains Academy, Jere Whitson Elementary, Highland Rim Academy, Cane Creek Elementary, and Cookeville High School.
Sheriffs Officials said calls are coming from the same individual who previously claimed there were explosive devices or armed people inside the buildings.
“We are treating every threat seriously and will continue working alongside our local, state, and federal partners to investigate these threats,” Farris said. “We will pursue whoever is responsible for these threats to the fullest extent of the law.”
Deputies and local agencies are currently clearing each building to ensure the safety of students and staff. The press release said law enforcement has increased security presence and patrols at schools that were not targeted by the calls as a precaution.
The first call happened around 8am to Cane Creek.
