Road closures will begin Monday along Cookeville’s Interstate Drive as part of a summer-long upgrade to that stretch.
The first project involves the construction of a new right-turn lane at the intersection of Interstate Drive and Jefferson Avenue. Officials said this work requires the closure of the existing eastbound right-turn lane and is expected to last approximately four to five months.
Officials said the second project consists of repairs to a sinking section of Interstate Drive located between Starbucks and SmartBank. Officials said these repairs will require lane closures for approximately four weeks, with the closures shifting every four to five days as work progresses.
Officials said the reduction to one lane in each direction through the work zone will occur during the first several weeks of the projects. Officials said all lane closures will remain in place during both the day and night to protect motorists and construction crews.
Officials said drivers should use caution, allow for extra travel time, or consider an alternate route if possible. Officials said the work is part of continued improvements to the transportation infrastructure in Cookeville.
