A crucial piece of equipment at Cookeville’s Wastewater Treatment Plant approved by Cookeville City Council following an emergency failure.
The Cookeville City Council approved a $68,211 payment request by Water Quality Control’s Barry Turner. A rotor assembly with bearings will be used in the plant’s oxidation ditch.
“This is emergency purchase of a sole source item that’s critical for the operation in the wastewater treatment plant,” Turner said. “We’ve purchased this and had it installed and in service.”
Turner presented council members with a photograph of the broken unit. Turner said the equipment could not wait because it is pivitoll to processing the water at the plant.
Under Cookeville’s purchasing ordinance, prior council approval is required for a purchase of this amount, but due to the nature of the repair, Turner said following that process was not possible.
