Emergency responders on the scene of a gas line explosion that occurred Tuesday near the 3300 block of Hanging Limb Highway in Overton County.
Overton County Sheriff John Garrett said the incident took place on a land mass located between Muddy Pond and Hanging Limb Highway. Garrett said the explosion likely originated off of the Union B Road area.
“Right now it is still on fire from what I understand and we’ve got, of course we’ve got all of our folks are responding,” Garrett said. “We’ve got some on scene but with the fire it’s kind of hard to assess everything that’s going on right now.”
Garrett said the ongoing fire has limited the ability of officials to conduct a full assessment of the scene. There are currently no reports of injuries or damage to structures in the vicinity of the blast.
Garrett said the primary focus remains on the active fire and the emergency response. No specific road closures have been announced as the investigation into the cause of the explosion continues.
