Roundtable Meetings Support Local Short Term Rentals

The Sparta White County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism utilizing quarterly roundtable meetings to help local short-term rental owners navigate government regulations and industry growth.

Sparta White County Chamber Of Commerce Executive Director Brent Young said the forums provide a specific space for property owners to discuss the future of the hospitality industry in the region.

“It’s a good time for them to build connections within our local tourism community and it also empowers them to be a part of the conversation for what the future holds for Sparta and White County in short-term rentals,” Young said.

Young said hosts must understand the necessity of maintaining proper certifications and business licenses.

The roundtable events allow operators to share personal experiences and successes while learning to rely on one another for support. The unique characteristics of local rentals, including properties featuring live animals, contribute to the overall experience visitors seek when traveling to see natural landmarks like area waterfalls.

“They’re looking for that overall experience, not just to be able to rest your head,” Young said. “They’re looking for that experience.”

Some property owners are unaware they must check in with both the city and county governments to ensure their operations are legal. The chamber brings in representatives from the Tennessee Department of Tourism Development to provide state-level updates and expectations to local hosts.

“We want to make sure that everybody is educated before they make decisions,” Young said. “I always say it’s great to have that commonality and to be able to share those ideas and those experiences with same-like folks.”

The forums are free to attend and include lunch provided by local businesses. Interested residents can find upcoming meeting dates on the chamber website, where they can register to share testimonials or seek advice on common industry struggles.

“I guarantee you somebody in that room has been through it and maybe can help you out,” Young said.
