The Cumberland County Health Department recruiting a full-time registered dental hygienist to support a recently hired dentist and expand access.
Registered Dental Hygienist Caitlyn Cook, said families in rural areas often face limited provider availability and appointments that are booked far in advance.
“By placing the full-time Registered Dental Hygienist in Cumberland County to support our new dentist, this is going to increase access to preventative dental care and it’s going to reduce the wait times and give these rural families more consistent and convenient opportunities to receive this essential oral healthcare,” Cook saidf
Cook said delays frequently cause patients to wait until dental problems become urgent or severe before seeking treatment.
“This is going to allow us to provide high-quality preventative and clinical dental services in our community in Cumberland County,” Cook said.
The state offers health insurance, retirement options, and paid leave to attract licensed professionals to public health roles. The department also utilizes predictable scheduling to provide a healthier work-life balance than is typically found in the dental field.
“That kind of community-focused work is just incredibly rewarding and something I can speak for as myself, and is something many applicants will truly value,” Cook said.
Rural families faced barriers including a lack of insurance or restricted plans that limited their provider options.
“Professionals with the Department of Health, we also have the opportunity to make a direct impact on these underserved communities,” Cook said. “We get to help families that might otherwise struggle to receive preventative dental care.”
