Former Fentress Deputy Indicted On Misconduct Charge

A Former Fentress County Sheriffs Deputy has been indicted on charges of official misconduct.

43-year-old Derek Cull Richards turned himself into the Fentress County Jail Thursday afternoon. An investigation found Richards, while serving as a deputy, sold his agency-issued AR-15 rifle for personal gain. Investigators tracked down and recovered the rifle.

Richards no longer works for the sheriff’s office.

The investigation came at the request of District Attorney Jared Effler.
