This Week in the Upper Cumberland the Overton County Commission will appoint its Election Redistricting Committee.
The group will consist of five commissioners, Election Administrator Craig Story, EMA Director Chris Masiongale and County Executive Ben Danner. Danner has said in the past that he anticipates the process to be a time crunch to reach the year-end deadline.
Danner said he expects the Rickman area to have the biggest population change. The Commission will also fill a vacancy for the District Five seat. The meeting begins Monday at 5:00 p.m. at the county service building.
Tuesday the Algood City Council will meet at 6:00 p.m at city hall. Members will consider the second and final reading of the certified tax rate. Algood received a 36 cent rate from the state.
The remainder of the meeting will include work regarding zoning classifications. The council will consider changing some two acres at Burton Branch Road from low density residential to light industrial.
Then, less than a half an acre at Cooper Road will be considered to move from low density residential to general commercial. An ordinance will also be presented for a first reading that would redefine single family residential units.
Also on Tuesday, the Crossville City Council will consider applying for a state multimodal grant. The city wants to use the funding to bring new lighting to the downtown area. Business begins at 6:00 p.m.
